nosler 165gr balistic tip for kansas white tail
« on: November 26, 2005, 11:29:17 AM »
I have a winchester mod 760 in 308 and have loaded some 165 nosler ballistic tips for a hunt in kansas.  This is my back up gun but would like to hunt with it  as much as my 338.  I would like to know if you all have any stories about the BT nosler 165gr good or bad I have heard both but am leary of the bullet not holding together and taking a chance on wounding game. did not have time to get the new accubonds. so  let me know if my bullet choice will pay off or should i stick with the 338.

My father hunts with the old Winchester auto in 308, I believe it is a model 100, not sure though. Anyway, he doesn't reload like I do, so he uses federal premium with the 165 nosler BTs. They are very accurate and the one deer he shot with it was  a Mulie and it dropped in the scope and didn't even kick. The bullet exited and performed perfect, I don't think you have anything to worry about if your shot placement is good.

Good hunting,
Brian

Hi i loaded the 125gr BT to shoot out of my Rem 700 300 wby. And they work good on the deer there. My brother shoots a OLD Rem 742 308 and he uses the Win Sivler BT 150gr BT out of it VM

The 165BT is a soft bullet & offers fast expansion, too fast in the big 30's
when shooting big Whitetails up close & in the shoulder. However, in a
308, if you use care up close, it will be very effective. I did not see the
range you will be shooting, but this bullet will still expand at long range
from a 308, & should do well, so good luck!
You will not make peace with the Bluecoats, you are free to go.
