I got a nikon prostaff on my .35 today and didn't get to the range before dark, so i just have it zeroed at 25 yards off my front porch. What might the trajectory look like up to 150 yards with a 25 yard zero?? It will probably be 2 weeks before i get a chance to go to the range again and i want to use it to hunt deer behind my house until i go back to the range. Thanks ya'll!

I am using 200 gr remington core-lokt sp's.

It really doesn't matter what you are using. There is no way anyone can even come close to telling you the answer you seek. You absolutely CANNOT sight in at 25 yards. It cannot be done. You must shoot to at least 50 and better yet 100 yards to have even a remote clue what it is doing down range.

But if you sighted dead on then you will be high WAY high at 100 yards. That's about the only given I can offer you. You might not even be on paper at 100.

A wise move in my opinion.

When I'm starting the sight in process on a new rifle or handgun with scope I begin at 25 yards on my range. I try to set it to dead center left and right and not less than 1/2" to not more than 2" low vertically. Then when I move to 100 yards to finish the job I find them most often on paper but not always on an 8.5" x 11" sheet.

My target stand holds six of those sheets, three wide and two high. So I have a lot of room to at least catch the bullet even if not on the sheet I'm shooting at. Some times it's NOT the sheet I was aiming at that catches them. Seen it hundreds of times. That's why I try my best to discourage anyone from making assumptions based on a 25 yard group.

Well, I got to the range to day and i was high about 5 inches and right about 3 inches. So, Im glad I didnt take it this morning. Its shooting about 2 inch groups at an inch and a half high at 100 yards. I was just shooting off of a sandbag so it could probably do better. Thanks for all the help!

That is quite typical but the next time it could be 5" wide and 8" high. At least you see now from experience why not to trust a 25 yard zero. Wish everyone would learn it.

I got a 4-point yesturday morning at about 6:30. He ran up to me and stopped about 15 yards away. I heard him coming so i was already aiming in that direction and when he stopped I took the shot. He ran about 20 yards and fell dead. The bullet passed straight through and left a good hole for a nice blood trail. My first deer with the .35 remington!!!

Nice going on your first of many with that .35 Remington, and yes they do make a very nice hole in the game as I found out when I had to shoot a very bad critter on Saturday morn.

But my Marlin 336 .35 Remington didn't fill my tag this year.... it got late in the day so I changed out to my scoped Springfield in .243 Win and filled my deer tag with a nice med size doe.

Two one shot kills in the same day.... good day for me

Thats a good looking buck! What kind of ammo do ya'll use? I have only tried Remington core-lokts. I thought about trying out the Win. power-points to see if they would group better.

Muddy I just noticed for the first time that you're from the next county over. Shows how much attention I pay to where folks are from when reading posts. :oops: Do you hunt at CWMA? I've killed a bunch of deer out of there. Took my first one with a .35 Rem from there not far from Rattlesnake Mtn. back about '80 I guess it was. Wife had given me the Marlin for Christmas in '79.

I have no real preference in ammo brand for it just as long as it's a 200 grain RN.

The ammo I have been using since I don't reload for it yet is, Remingtons 200-gr JSP Core Lock. I only have one confirmed kill with it, and that was not game but a dangerous critter bent on thinking I was a chew toy.

But I am like Bill here, that as long as it is a 200-gr JSP I will use it in my 336CS.

Graybeard, Yes I do hunt The CWMA a good bit, but mainly the northern part of it a little north of coleman lake and I use the Henry Creek shooting range a good bit. I haven't had any luck with deer yet but I plan to change that this weekend. Hunters choice Friday and Saturday. And I have took a lot of squirells from there. My father is a Gamewarden here in Cleburne county, But he wont tell me where all the deer are up there!!! :?

I just realized you all from Bama Country.. I got kin in Hazelgreen, which for those that don't know is due north of Huntsville.

I'm not familiar with Hazelgreen but Huntsville is a good drive northwest from here. Id say about 2 hours or more. And I've only been through there maybe 2 or 3 times.

I'm quite familiar with Huntsville been there many times. Worked there with the Army Audit Agency for about six months back in '73. From my house it's less than an hour as I'm just off US431 so don't have to go thru Anniston Like Muddy would.

Muddy I'm very familiar with the area around Coleman lake and the area north of it also. Right in the NE corner of the CWMA there is about a four square mile block that once at least had nearly no open roads. Not sure if they are still blocked or not. I've been in there both when they were and weren't open. Good area.

I used to shoot at the Henry Creek Range but when we moved here in '94 I built my own range in my back yard so don't tend to travel to shoot much these days. For you tho it's pretty close and convenient.

My Mom and Dad are in Randolph County, not too far from Graybeard and Muddy, apparently.

Good luck in the woods. Be sure to use that underpowered, 100 year old good for nothing cartridge, too. Just don't tell the deer that! :-D

Randolph county is the next county below me and have a few friends there. And I'll be taking that old .35 Remington with me on a lot more hunts this year.
