I slowly but surely have taken up an interest in refinishing/customizing rimfires. My current project is a M69 Trainer that:
*has the barrel floated
*action bedded
*a "J" inletted in the pistol grip (black walnut)
*a inletted piece of black walnut for a stock extension
*forend tip/spacer
*thumb relief cut in pistol grip
*etc.
What I would like to learn more about is ventilating forends. Does anyone know how this is done? I assume on a vert. mill, but need more specifics. Thanks
tom

Never thought about it but a mill would work fine. Or a router if you can build a jig to hold it the way you want.   KN

If a mill is not available a square chisel is used.. It is a square sharpened hollow chisel with a drill bit inside. Held in a special tool holder it is used in a drill press to drill square holes. Connected together they produce our slots.. They are available from most suppliers of woodworking tools.
