Author Topic: opiniions on reproduction .22 BCPR style rifles (Read 650 times)

Hello everyone,

I'm interested in purchasing a .22 that is appropriate for BPCR style .22 silhouette shooting, and came across the low wall reproductions that Buffalo Arms is offering. These rifles seem much more "affordable" than some others, like the CPA or Ballard reproductions.

Does anyone have any experience with these rifles, and if so, how do they stack up as far as quality and accuracy?

afleming: I don't know if you already have a large bore BP rifle, like say a 74 Sharps or 85 Browning in say 40-65 or any of the 45 caliburs. If you do, then you might consider a Dave Crossno .22 liner that you can put in and take out as you choose. They work excellent, and are very reasonable at around $140.00 last I knew. This is definately an option that I'll have to consider, but I'd much prefer a dedicated .22. Not onlly do they look great, but this will prevent me from having to re-sight the .22 every time I reinsert the .22 insert.

I have one of the new Winchester low wall 22s. Nice rifle and is accurate. I'm not sure if they are still for sale but you see them in stores for about $600.

If you want to shoot the real thing. Winchester low walls dating from 1895 to around 1930 are still out there. A ton of them were chambered in .22WRF and some of them in plain old 22 long. In fact, the army purchased most of them from Winchester as training rifles.
I picked one up and had it rebarreled into .218 Mashburn bee. It is really fun and really accurate.
