Barrel Interchangeability?
« on: December 01, 2005, 05:50:09 PM »
Can the Mossberg 590 Series accept any other barrels other than pretty much the barrel it comes with, as long as the barrel is not designed to shoot 3 1/2" shells?  I was wondering whether it is possible to install a barrel that has the flexibility of changing out the chokes to a desired use.  Thanks.

Check the Mossberg website, they should have that info. If not, give them a call or email. Their response is usually within a couple days. I suspect that the 590 is not interchangeable with the 500 or 835 or 535 model. The 590is a HD model while the remainder are field/hunting models. If you want to change chokes (e.g. for small game hunting), you are likely going to have to look into having a smith install tubes though it may be easier and probably ultimately less costly to get a field gun which already has tubes. The old Polychoke also permits choke changes, but not sure if this is still on the market or not.
