This year's deer with a revolver
« on: December 02, 2005, 04:32:52 AM »
I dropped this nice doe on our PA gun opener at only 15 yds. Shooting a Ruger SBH Bisley hunter, weaver 2x scope. 240 XTPs and 24 gr H110.
It's my 2nd deer with a handgun, boy it's addicting.

Congrats. How did the 240 XTP perform. I see it's good and dead. Where did you hit it, how far did it run, complete pass through?

She had spotted me and was dropping and turning to run just as I squeezed off, so I hit her in the spine. The bullet smashed things up pretty good in there. About a 50 cent piece hole exit. Even though she dropped in a heap, I wanted to see how things would have went with the chest shot that I was aiming for. Maybe this weekend I'll have another story.

Great going there RYBO!

Hunting with a revolver is definately adicting. You'll probably find yourself carrying a revolver more, and more as time goes on.

Congratulations, and keep on posting your results!

Thanks guys

Here is the 2nd doe I took this year with the SBH. 35/40 yds shot, she went about 50 yds before dropping. Good shot thru the chest, exit hole was about a quarter size.
Sorry the pic isn't the greatest.

Nice pics.  I have recently (meaning the last 4 or 5 years) started handgun hunting, and I think that it is addicting too.  I especially love it with hogs! :-D

Man Alive!!!

That's not a revolver! That's a drive shaft off a small truck with a pistol grip on it!

Congrats to all of you.  They are fine trophies....

Don't get me wrong.   I love hunting with a handgun, and it is probably my favorite method hunting with gun, but I certainly wouldn’t call it hunting the hard way. Have you ever tried still hunting with Bow and Arrow? Now that is Tough.

Good shooting!  Two does with handgun in one season.  After you hunt with the handgun, you'll probably never go back to the rifle!
Success is a journey, not a destination...  Might as well enjoy the ride!!

Just remember, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.  You can rely on 911 or on 1911. The choice is yours.
