BamBams,
Ah Yes!.....and there's the rub. My daughter has three children ages 8,7,and 3 years. Yes, it has a cage on top and around the sides, with a drip pan on the bottom. We're all pretty concerned as these things do flair up if not watched closely. As for the price of fuel, I've yet to refill our 5 gallon container so we'll find out soon enough. They were pleasantly surprised at how much heat it threw off in the living area (living room, dining room and kitchen). I'm sure they will continue to use it as long as it doesn't stink up the house.
I've read some on the proper upkeep of kerosene heaters and they say to keep it clean by squeezing the wick between thumb and forefingers and routinely dry-burning the wick to get rid of the carbon buildup. Good Luck and God Bless and protect you and your family. We're all just trying to get though a forecasted long, cold, snowy, winter here in the northeast. Thanks for your impressions.
Jim
