I went out shooting about a week ago, I was not to sure how this pistol would handle colder weather. It worked just fine with both HP and FMJ ammo. It was about 35 below, I'll try it again when it gets real cold , sometime between Dec. and Jan.

  I'll report back later

I bought the standard 4 inch mdl. that came with three mags and a small plastic holster, all in a padded folding case. I am very happy with it. It will be my only auto, I am getting rid of my ruger 45 auto and I'll just keep the XD.
I have been to that web site many times, lots of good info over their.

  Thanks,  wjake19
  Good Holidays

was it really 35 below zero.. not just 35, three degrees above freezing. Hell at twenty below it is dangerous to leave the house.

Yes darrell8937 it really was 35 below zero and that is not uncommon at all for the interior of alaska.
If I am not mistaken the state record temprature is 84 below without windchill factor and I think that was set in northway about 50 miles from me. Recorded many years ago.
I would like to go out shooting again with my XD40  to see how it works at 50 to 60 below , if the weather will cooperate, it has only been 10 to 15 below lately, almost t-shirt weather.

19, 1925 at Van Buren.

As you would expect, the coldest temperature ever officially recorded in the United States was in Alaska.
It was -79.8 degrees Fahrenheit - rounded off to minus 80 degrees - observed at Prospect Creek Camp in the Endicott Mountains of northern Alaska on Jan. 23, 1971. The Prospect Creek Camp is along the Alaska pipeline about 20 miles north of the Arctic Circle.

I would love to visit alaska but I am glad I live in Maine! BRRRRRR....

do you use regular gun oil or something special.. How do rifles and scopes stand up to the low temps. Doy you have propane start on you car.. Remember those old probane start cars.. What a pain..

The gun oil is not a problem because I keep my guns dry. Every year I take the firing pin out of my bolt action rifles and clean them and apply some dry grafite on the firing pin and bolt and that is it everything else is dry.
As for my trucks they start fine up to 20 or 30 below but anything past that and I plug in the block heaters, batt blankets, oil pan heaters.
Also I use synthetic lube in everything on my trucks. And I use two gel spiral cell batteries.
