Howa 92
« on: December 03, 2005, 09:24:49 AM »
I am going to order a Mdl 92.  As I may at some point decide to start the cowboy action game, what is legal for compitition in this mdl.?  Stainless?  Brass?  Right now I am leaning towards either the brass or case hardened with the octagon barrel.  Thanx

Unless Howa has started some thing new real recently that I'm not aware of they aren't making Win 92 clones. Rossi makes the vast majority of them and the Japanese firm of Miroku the rest.

Donno nuthin about Howa, but the Rossi short rifles that I have handled, with the octogon barrels and case hardened frame have been really nice! I think you will be happier in the long run with the case hardened receivers. Some CAS venues do not permit the brass frames anyway, such as NCOWS, because the 92 was not originally made with a brass frame...'S a matter of personal taste though and I'm sure you will be happy with whatever you decide on there.

Here is what I know..........my FFL holder and I went on the net and checked at Jerry's Sport Cntr for a mdl 92.  They were listed under Howa Puma.  Nothing under Rossi.  Following the provided link took us to Legacy Sports International.  At that site they were advertiesed soley under the Puma logo.  THAT is the extent of my knowledge on who mfg. them.  Thank you Cuts, exactly the info I was looking for.  Case hardened, with the octagon barrel it will be.

The reference to a Howa Puma was in error. All of the LSI imported M92s are made by Rossi. I have one of them. I also have one imported by EMF without the Puma name. They are high quality guns.

Legacy Sports International is a importer, they import both the Howa and Puma rifles. The bolt actions are Howa and the lever action 92's are Puma.

I ordered one of my '92s direct from the guy that does warrantee work for EMF.  He polished the internal parts, replaced the plastic magazine follower with a metal one, and generally made it much nicer to shoot than my factory stock EMF/Rossi '92.

One place to find really good prices on factory stock EMF/Rossi '92s is:

www.gunbroker.com

There are some new ones selling for under $350.
