Ruger No. 1 trigger?
« on: December 03, 2005, 02:29:55 PM »
I am thinking about buying a Ruger No. 1 in 223 for varmint hunting next year, but I have a question about the trigger.  Is it bad like people say the M77 trigger is?  And can it be adjusted easily?  A good trigger is important to me for shooting accurately, so I was kind of curious.  I like Ruger rifles, but I haven't tried the No. 1 yet.

I have two, and I had trigger work on the '06,which came out well, but I replaced the trigger on the 7mm Rem mag.

The triggers on the No. 1s are not adjustable. I have owned 5, still own 3 and have never had a real problem with the triggers like the god offal triggers in the 77s. If you do have a problem with the trigger, Moyers makes a drop-in fully adjustable for a little over 50 bucks and if you want to get fancy, Kepplinger makes a single-set trigger for the No. 1 but that’s pretty pricey at over 250 bucks. The Kepplinger still relies on the factory sear/hammer relationship in the unset mode. Timney doesn’t catalog a trigger for the No. 1 at this time.
