Remington Model 4 questions?

A friend has a model 4(scroll/script writing of the Model Four) with a fancy nonimpressed  checkering on the stock and foreend, pistol grip w/white line spacer, and monte-carlo stock, in 270. SN A4016XXX.  He was told it was a rare model when he bought it.  Is it a standard run of the mill gun or is it unusual.  Any idea on its value(99%+) also? :-)

Sounds like the standard grade Model 4 made from 1981-1988 according to my book. Value in ex. condition $592. They made an engraved Diamond Aniversary LTD Edition in 1981 only. If that is what it is, it will be worth more like $1000. There were some higher grades with varying levels of engraving that are worth much, much more.
