PMC .45/70 Cowboy Loads
« on: December 04, 2005, 11:00:32 AM »
Hello fellas, I know these are lower powdered loads, but a their price, are they enough to take down Deer? My shots wouldn`t be over 100 yards, most likely 50 and under. I know the Rem 405 offering will, but will the PMC 405 Cowboy do it? Plus, I like the all lead bullet. Thanks-Jack.

Slayer:

In my opinion, if you stick one of those lead slugs in the correct place at any distance up to a 100 yards, the deer is going to die. Enjoy.

I've shot the PMC Cowboy loads from my Marlin Guide Gun and they are accurate and fun to shoot. Good for the shooters new to the 45-70 and find the size of the 45-70 imposing. This is because they are quite mild in terms of recoil, I'm guessing they are loaded to Trap-Door specs.

Yet to try them in my Handi-Rifle or my Buff Classic. I expect them to do just fine.

The bullets themselves look like heck compared to premium cast from LBT but they shoot fine.

I would have no problem hunting deer with them. This is if I lived in a rifle county. I live and hunt where only shotguns are allowed.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Nixter!! I will be shooting them in my BC. I don`t mind full power loads, but just want a cheaper alternative, until I load my own with black powder. Thanks-Jack.

They shot real good in my BC and that's how I got most of my brass. When I bought the rifle I also bought 6 boxes of PMC and 4 boxes of remington. I would not hesitate for a second to use them on deer or elk within 150yds or so. Heck, they supposedly duplicate the ballistics of the "original" 45-70 load which was good for killing any game at the time and I really don't think game has grown any tougher over the years despite what the gun magazines may tell you.
