Hornady 7MM 120Gr SST

Anybody tried Hornady 120 grain single shot pistol bullets in their contender?  The Hornady number is 22811.  Thought these may be a good deer round in a 7-30 or maybe 7tcu.

billjoe,

That is the bullet (although the Hornady number on my boxes is 2811) that I use in my 7-30 Waters Super 14.  I use it with H-335 and a CCI-200 primer for a MV of a bit over 2300 fps.  Accuracy is mostly M.O.A. out to 150 yards.  I have taken several deer with this load at less than 100 yards and the results were very good.  It was one of the first single shot pistol bullets available (15+ years ago?) during the time I was working with the 7-30 Waters.  I have stayed with it.  Good-luck...BCB

I wasn't sure what the number was- that was what was in the catalog where I saw it.  I'll get me some and give them a try.  They're a little more economical than the Nolers

there are still a number of places that had this bullet in stock when i bought several hundred around the first of the year. they shoot very well in my 7-30 waters. hornady has discontinued this bullet # 28211. I contacted them about this and the said that indead they had discontinued them. but the v-max bullet #28210 is the same bullet. just marketed to different shooters. just my $.02 worth.
