li'l ten point taken with my Encore
« on: December 05, 2005, 04:18:18 AM »
I bought an Encore two years ago after getting allot of advice from this Forum. I ordered it with a 50 cal. muzzle loader barrel in stainless, with camo stock. With instructions I got from the net, and a trigger spring kit I was able to get a wonderful trigger pull from the gun. I ordered and received one of the last Virgin Valley barrels they made. It is a 26" heavy taper, stainless 270 win barrel. With a 3.5 to 10 VXlll scope it consistently produces 1/2 " groups. The gun is now 6 shots for 6 kills. This nice li'l ten point being the last to fall to this wonderful rifle. I posted the story of the hunt on the deer Forum under "how or you doing this year". Going to the Encore is one of the best things I have ever done. I haven't had to track a deer in two years. Having a single shot makes one take the time to make the first shot count!!!!

I can't agree more with you on the encore.
Nice little 10 point. I wish I could find one that big here in upper Michigan.

Flyrod,
Can you tell me how to put a photo on the forum?  I've tried cut/paste, but it won't let me paste.  Thanks,
Karl

Nice!  I have always liked the Encore set up.  But I felt like they had too much muzzle jump.  Does the long heavier barrel help to tame that?

Flyer05,
I have hunted this spot for five years, not taking any doe's or small bucks, waiting for a buck like this to show. This buck is the off spring of the one I started after Five years ago. That buck was taking two years ago just a few hundred yards off our property, and was a very nice twelve point.

Longwinters,
The 270 is not a heavy recoiler to start with, but the heavy taper 26" barrel adds a lot of weight to the barrel and diffinently helps keep the muzzle jump down. Weight is not a problem in Georgia where I hunt. We seldom hunt more than half mile from the truck. I also stuffed the butt stock with foam carpet padding to add a little more weight and take away the hollow sound you get when it hits anything. It is by far my favorite rifle to shoot!

Redhawk1,
Thanks, it is the second best I have taken in my thirty plus years of hunting whitetail. It grossed 119 inches with 5 inches of deductions. Not a monster but very nice.

Kgillard,
If you print this and use it to go by it should help. Go to the site below and register, It is free. When you log on to your account the first time "bookmark "it so you can return easly. When you are logged into your photobucket account, you click on the browse button and go to the spot on you computer where you save you pictures and find the picture you want. After you pick which picture click on open and it will than be time to click the submit button You have now put your picture into your account. It takes a little while to download each picture. You can now look at your image in your account by scrolling down to them. Highlight the [Image] address and copy it using the copy command from your edit menu. Now open the graybeard board and start writing your post. You need to hold your arrow on the icons at the top right of your message board to the right of where it says List= find the one that says image. When you click on this Img icon you should then go to your paste comand on your edit menu at the top left part of your screen and click on paste. Now hit preview and see if it works. If you leave your photobucket and Greybeards open at the same time you can go back and fourth and put several pictures on the same post.

In my eyes, it does not need to be a monster to be considered a trophy.  :D

Redhawk1,
I couldn't agree more. I will enjoy mounting this ten and I already have a place on the wall picked out. The first deer I took with a open site revolver was just a button head, but I was as proud of that deer as any wall hanger I have taken. I took the heart back to camp to show every one that was willing to look, the 44 cal. hole through the center of it.

Flyrod:  I would be damn proud of that 10 pointer.  That was a no brainer to shoot him.  As for the .44 mag, that's so cool.  I've been wanting to do that for years.  As usual, there is only so much time.  I've been bow hunting for 20 years now and still have not stuck anything worth putting on the wall. Keep up the good work and take that kid of yours hunting to pass it on.  Rock on!!!  :D

Conrad101rst,
I am very proud of this 10 point. I hope that my son will enjoy the sport of hunting. I am looking forward to the day when he is old enough to go with me. He is only 3, but already pitches a fit to go crow hunting with me. It drives my wife nuts. I even made him a couple crow calls to use instead of my one and only Malardtone crow call. This also gets on my wifes nerves. The crow call making has now taking on a life of its on. Anyone interested in crow hunting info or buying great crow hunting gear need to check out the Crowbuster's web site. http://www.crowbusters.com/
