204 Ruger ?
« on: December 06, 2005, 11:01:36 AM »
Looking to get a 204 ruger barrel for my contender. My question is do they make it in a 21 inch barrel. I know the I can get it in a 23 inch. My main use for it will be plinking and target shooting. I have 3 other carbine barrels and two of them are 21 in. A 17 HMR and a 223. And a  16 1/4. in .22LR.  I just like the 21in. barrels. If they make them were can I find one.

Thanks,
Jeff

There are several Custom Shops you can order from!

I have ordered barrels from Fox Ridge Outfitters, they give good service!
Web Site is www.foxridgeoutfitters.com !

Factory standard is 23" for plinking and target use 2" of barrel will mean little if anything. Another option would be to have a factory barrel cut and crowned......On the Bullberry website Fred found that for max velocity 23" was optimum in a .204

I bought a .204  barrel made by T/C for my Encore and it shot like crap. I sent it back to T/C and they said it was out of specs and sent me a new one. It shot worse than the first. I traded it on a CZ 527 in .204 and it`s a tack driver. I do have several T/C barrels that are very good shooters, but had real bad luck with their .204 barrels. If I were to get another .204 barrel for a T/C I think it would be a Bullberry, all of their barrels I`ve ever had would shoot at least good and most great.

I have recently purchased two bbls one from fox ridge custom shop a 7x30 waters in 22'' and a regular TC 23'' 204 --they both shoot great no complaints on either , I was able to get the brushed stainless from fox ridge , big difference in price from the true custom shop bbls , no doubt the customs are a more quality bbl , just depends what you want , and like skb mentioned Fred at bullberry did alot of testing and found the 23'' to be the best length for velocity I don't think you would notice the two extra inches in length. if you deceide on fox ridge they will give you any length you want , and don't forget to give ed's TC's a call  for new bbl's he was able to get my 7x30 bbl  . quicker and a little cheaper than going direct.

I have a 23" factory blue .204 for my son......shoots excellent.....very small groups bought off the forums for $190.
I just bought a MGM 23" Stainless for me in .204 that I have not had a chance to work with yet ....cost me more than the first three cars I ever owned....combined. If TC offered a Contender barrel .204 in Stainless I would have done that.

Thanks to all that replied, I guess I'll just get the 23 in. factory barrel. Now all i need to get is another frame and scope.
