45/70 encore v SE Okla pig
« on: December 06, 2005, 03:37:22 PM »
I was deer hunting a couple of weeks ago and had not spotted the right deer. It was around 10 in the morning and I was getting bored. This young boar that weighted about 150 lbs. come into view. He was about 60 to 70 yards away. I have a friend who has been wanting to try smoking a young  hog so I though this might be the one. I was hunting with a T/C Encore pistol in 45/70. The shells were souped up DO NOT START WITH THIS LOAD. I was shooting 405 gr Rem SP in front of 45 gr of 4198. This give me a velocity of around 1750 and energy of about 3000. I shot the pig in the shoulder and it when in one and out the other. He went up in the air and came down stone dead. We butchered him and there was not much left of the front shoulders and nothing but goop in between. I love my 45/70 pistol. Brushy SE Okla
