curious about lack of colt post

just a curious questio--no personal opinions from me--but i was wondering why colt doesn't get any play from you guys? cost ? quality ?
just wondering-not arguing-but i'd like to hear opinions.

beautiful guns but everytime I get that much money together another custom project seems to get the attension. Deffinately on my someday list though

They shot their wad!  Colt has always charged too much for their guns and they let quality slip in the later years.  Then, they decided civilians didn't need handguns and dropped all their civilian gun sales.  Now, to save their butts, they've decided to bring back their bread and butter guns from the 70s and 80s, but in truth, the "cowboy" single action is a real stinker!  I sold my Colts for a great profit and bought great shooting Italian copies that had better workmanship, better finishes, attention to detail, quality and I had money left over...lot's of money left over!

Wow Dan, how do you really feel?  Actually, I concurr whole-heartedly! I would probably own another one, but I can buy two nice ones for the same price. If you want a single-action for a lot of shooting and heavy loads, buy a Ruger or FA, if you want a real nice 1873 SA that shoots and looks great great, buy the copy, and spend your money of reloading and accessories.  I sold my Colts (2) when they sold me out...they sure didnt think the shooting family was so strong! Now they want back in the game. Too late! I even sold my Colt Match H-Bar and went the Bushmaster route!
Too bad for Colt. I loved the Series 70.

Sorry Guys!  I love my Colts.  All these guns have their place.  Rugers and Freedom arms for hunting.  Italian copys for inexpensive knock around guns.  But I can buy a used SAA for the price of a USFA.  Cimmarons are great but they have a long way to go to match those colt case colors.  Also have an AWA and the action is great but still isn't comparable to the timing on my Colt.  I hunt with Freedom Arms 83s but they are heavier than I like to carry for just walking around the woods.  The Colt is perfect-not to big, not too small.  Maybe I have been lucky, but I have never had a quality problem with a Colt.  (I have sent back two AWAs that had quality control problems)  I have a SSA in .44 spl that shoots excellent and a .44-40 that will soon wear a .44 spl cylinder.  They are not magnums, but for a relaxed afternoon in the woods, they are just right.  I grew up watching the Lone Ranger every afternoon.  I'm sure he would not have worn a pair of Ubertis.  (by the way, the guns he used (Colt .45s) in his last personal apperance are up for sale.  If I had an extra $15,000, I'd own them! Try to get that out of a copy!)  44 Man

Hey thanks for you comments. It's what makes America great--many choices and freedom to express opinions. I agree with everything you said--but I was really angree at Colt AND the rest of the industry wimping on us. It took quite a while for them to realize how strong the gun culture is in us. Bill Ruger did un no favors on his stance with hi-cap semi-autos! I live in the land of Ed rendell, and he is a major threat as ar all politicians. NO ONE will address the real problems. Anyway, NOW--you posed an interesting question--I wonder how much two guns would auction for IF they were The Lone Rangers, and IF they were Uberti's? I think they'd still command a huge price, but probably not as much. Colt Collector's do have something to say about those prices.

ok--as i see it from your post it appears the conscious of opinion is(besides the political things) colts are ok, just very expensive. others will do the same job for less money.
reputation is a strange thing and seems to go against the laws of economics. it would appear colt could make more money by bringing the cost of the weapon we are discussing down--keeping quality up--and they would sell way more guns--and a lot of people would be real happy. right or am i misreading your responses?
now the question in my mind(mind?--i have no mind man!) is what would they be worth on this new economic idea--ie-what could they sell them for ?
a small disclaimer--this isn't going to change anything. i'm just thinkin "what if's".

Colt has deliberately kept the price of the SAA high, their lawyers decided that, because it has no safety protecting the 6th chamber loaded situation, as Ruger and the Colt Cowboy does (A copy of the Ruger conversion).  The guns are sold as "Collectors" only, and the literature and the catalog advise not shooting them because they are collectables, and shooting will hurt their value.  Keeping the price way too high, they believe, will keep the average shooter from purchasing them, only the "collectors" will buty them.  As a result, the clones sell, and the Colt Cowboy, were it decently finished like the USFA and some of the other clones are, would sell.

If I am not mistaken Ruger makes the frame for the Colt Cowboy. And the safety is a Ruger not a copy.

I would love to own a Colt SAA. To expensive. But I could have picked one up twenty years ago when they dropped them from their product line for $350.00. Stupid.
