just got a .40 in the 239---first blast was a real shocker--loud and heavy. took me about half a box of ammo to git tha flinchin under control. took me another box to get any degree of accuracy---silouette(sp-with no apologies :wink: )to mass.
now the disclaimer--i do not shoot enough to attain 2" patterns--an i'm not likely to start, but i think i do good and have no fear of the weapon.
is my experience a-typical or not ? what can i expect if i suppliment the weapon with the .357 barrel. same--less recoil--more? i know the type shell will depend but i'm asking - if i use similar ammo.
like the weapon--love the trigger--got to grab hold, but that will come.

The recoil on the 357 sig is different than the 40, it has more of a ....snappier recoil than a rolling one and it will be just as loud. It seems that the 357 is more accurate than the 40 and between the reoil and the accuracy you maybe surprised at how well you do. All of the police dept that have switched to the 357 claim that the overall score of officers have increased. With all that said you still need to practice.

I agree with Jamie,
The recoil is not an issue of more or less, if it were physics would make you change the spring, it is different. If you can handle a 40 you can handle a 357 in the same firearm

I have shot over 100 firearms in 40 and none of them were very accurate. The 357SIG is a far more accurate cartridge althlough I have only shot a dozen or so different weapons.

I have 229s in both chamberings, I did not bother with a 40 barrel for my P239.

So ... you say that the 239 in .40S&W is a handful? Hmmm, maybe I should get a 9mm version.

It is not a lot- it is heavy, as it is with a .45. Controllable, yes, with some practice. Mainly, just getting use to it.
I shoot at an indoor range and that is most of the problem. Outdoors it would not be quiet as noticeable.
I really do not care for indoor ranges but this is so handy. It beats driving 45 minutes, specially with the price of gas. It is an old converted movie theatre and sounds just echo.

You might try working up some light re-loads and play with it a while as you increase your loads. I have both the .40 and .357, there is a small amount of difference but you should get use to it after some practice.

You don't have to pop 50-100 rounds each time you go out, try shooting 10-15 with the .40 and quit, go to another gun you enjoy shooting, After a while you should overcome any discomfort you have with the gun.

Well I dont have the .40 or the 357 sig. but I just got a 239 in a gun trade this weekend and it may become my main carry handgun, I like the blackened stainless finish, dont like the $40.00 cost for a extra mag. but will look around for a extra, gun fit my don huam S&W 6906 holster like it was made for it, but will get a replacement from don H for the exact fit, I will let you know if I dislike it

I shoot my 239/9mm with CCI Speer Gold Dot 115gr +P+. It is pretty snappy too.
My 226 is a 357.
