Author Topic: Trade for Omega or keep Encore? (Read 794 times)

I've had an Encore 209x50 for 2 years now. I have never had any problem with it. Shoots excellent groups with 240 or 250 grain Barnes MZ bullets over 100 grains of APP or 777. I have always thought it to be simple, easy to clean, and enjoy shooting it. My hunting partner bought the Omega and absolutely LOVES it. It SEEMS even easier to clean than my Encore. Now, I've kinda got the "new gun bug" to try out an Omega...but will have to trade in the Encore to keep wife from having a cow. :shock: Is this something I should even be considering, or should I just leave well enough alone? One more thing...I will probably never buy any more barrels for the Encore as I have several rifles already, if this matters.

Personally I would keep the Encore. But I use different barrels on mine. If you never intend to change barrels I would go with the one I liked the feel and performance of. They are almost the same gun anyway, just with the barrel change out capability. Just ask your friend to let you spend a little range time with the Omega to make your best decision. Nothing kills me worse than making a decision I regret later.

My thoughts exactly...that's the reason I'm trying to gather all the opinions I can before making any moves.

I also have the Encore 209x50. Absolutely love it. I have not shot the Omega, but like you have heard good things about it. I guess if you think you will Never put a different barrel on it then you are out nothing to trade for an Omega . . . but I dont know if it will shoot any better.

Well, here is the link to the pic. Still have not figured out how to post it. The group was shot using 100 gr. of American Pioneer with a 250 gr Barnes Expander MZ and Winchester 209's. It's a 50 yard, 4 shot group.

I have both and Encore 209x50 and an Omega 50Cal. I like both guns and would not part with the Encore. But I personally have to say I prefer the Omega as an Inline. The Omega does outshoot my Encore but they both shoot very well. The Omega to me just seems to balance in my hands better and is slightly lighter to carry. Cleaning is about the same (I removed the primer extractor and just remove the primers by hand so Idon't have to take the gun apart to remove the breechplug). Keep the Encore but try an Omega you can never have enough guns.

I did the opposite of what you are thinking about. I sold My Omega and bought the Encore. I do not regret it at all. To me, the Encore was a step up.

I pwn an encore and have shot an omega. For my money I will keep my encore. To me it just feels better. If I had a gun that shoots as well as yours does I guess my question would be why mess with success? I have looked at other guns but then think why My encore shoots great with the muzzleloader barrel and all my other barrels.

I would keep the encore. As far as quicker cleaning. Go with the .25ACP conversion (you leave the extractor off) some anti-seize tape and it is a snap to clean. Try some synthectic (I like the BM3) and clean up becomes really quick.

I would keep the Encore. I have 4 Encore frames and I dedicate barrels to three of them. I have a 45 Cal M/L, a 50 Cal M/L and my 416 Rigby, and I use one to switch between 22-250 and a 7mm08. If your gun shoots that well, why take a chance of getting a new gun that my not give you the accuracy of the gun you have. You never know when you will get the urge to get another barrel for your Encore. That is a no brainier to me.
