Ruger MkI & MkII 22lr pistols

I'm seeing some great buys right now lately on Ruger MkI & MkII 22lr pistols.  To me these are rock solid dependable pistols and there can't be anything wrong with them besides needing a good cleaning. Are the worth $150?

I think its a good buy considering conditions I have a Mk1 tapered bull target and a Mk2 5.5 bull target. After Mike at Rugers AZ plant walked me thru the re-assembly, I went out at his recommendation and bought the MK2. Never a failure, not to finicky on ammo, accurate, what else can I say. I am a little anal about triggers on my rifles, but on pistols not so much, the Ruger Pistols I own are all crisp out of the box.

At $150.00, you really can't go wrong if it is in good condition. I have had both models and they are both great guns. I have a MkI that my first wife bought me back in the late 70's and I still take a few squirrels with it each year. I think this gun will soon be able to shoot better then me. The gun's sight is still clear, mine, wellllllllll.  If you get ahold of either of these models, you should be very happy.

I have the Mk I, II (tapered) and III (fluted) - can't beat them! They are 'natural pointers,' all! I'd never sell any of them!

I bought a tapered 5.5 inch MKII that was a range rental with countless hundreds of rounds through it. I got some new springs for it, cleaned it out and it works like a dream. Best $80 I ever spent

I did pick up a MkII ruger with a bull barrel and a MkI ruger "red eagle" too.  Did you know the "red eagle" on the grips is a collectable now?  When Bill Rugers partner  Sturm died he changed the "red eagle" on the grips to a "black eagle" to honor his partners death.  These are sought after too by ruger collectors too.

If you pick up a used ruger MkI, MkII or MkIII pistol make sure you disassemble it and clean and lube it properly. I have seen some of these very dirty and some were never disassembled and cleaned and lubed properly too.  You can get this great pistol at an affordable used price too.

My grandpa gave me his mkI before he passed away, I love that gun, and I must admit it needs a good cleaning, badly!  :oops:  I'm guessing this gun was bought in the 60's, I've only ran about 100 rnds through it, has a few jambs now and then, I think form needing cleaned? Would it be a good idea to have new springs and such put in it?

I'm in the market for a new to me ruger mkI, II, III or 22/45, what sould I be looking for in prices for a shooter gun? I'd really like to get a paclite upper for one, I've heard great things about them.

I have a 22/45 5.5 inch heavy barrel. I really love that gun. It's been extremely accurate and reliable, though like most rimfires, it's picky about ammo. I did a trigger job on it, modified it and installed 1911 grips, and recently, bought a Pac-Lite barreled receiver for it. Mostly because that's what I do. It shot well from the factory, though the trigger did need some help.

The Pac-Lite is amazingly accurate! It also ended the muzzle heaviness of the bull barrel on a light frame. The balance and natural pointability is really good now. I highly recommend it. I still swap to the Ruger upper a lot though and it's like having 2 guns for the price of, well, two...LOL

If you get close to Sheels bring that Ruger 1 for a clean up. I have a old Mk1, I added a scope to and they did the mounting. I also had them do a complete clean and lube. This gun has only been taken down 2x in 40 yrs. I will take better care of it now. Sheels in West DesMoines. Most  Ruger mk1,2,3 owners do not do a total take down, nor do they want to.
