Hey all, What is the difference in the two pistol setups? Encore vs Contender G2. I have a G2 like it just fine but now getting into larger calibers and was wondering about the difference. One any better than another? Any help? Larry

the encore is a heck of a lot stronger, and can handle a lot more pressure, meaning large game cartridges are ok for it.

the G2's frame is smaller and less stout and can handle low-pressure rounds such as .30/30 and .223 and smaller. i believe it can also shoot 44 magnum and other pistol cartridges.

i have had both and cannot tell any quality or longevity difference between them.

Another difference is the Encore doesn't offer the option to shoot rimfire without post-factory modification.

I went with the G2 in a .22 LR Match for my first handgun, partly because I knew I would need to do LOTS of target shooting and the ammo is cheap.

And both the Encore and G2 have terrible triggers (in my opinion) so I'll stick with my two original style Contender frames.

yes, the two main differences or the encore can handle higher pressures and more powerful rounds, but it does not offer rimfire capability as the G2 does. I have a 17hm2 bbl that makes practice great. Also remember that bigger is not all ways better , the new 6.8 rem is a great round for shots out to 250 yds or more with plenty of energy. it will take any deer you get in your sights, thats my 2 cents, I think the G2 is more versatile. good hunting

Glad you spoke up cause I'm on the same fence, except it will be my first TC. Fact is I'm not sure IF I'll ever need the heavier calibers of the Encore.

I see that TC chambers the G2 in 375 JDJ, does that mean it will also handle those like the 375 Win?

It will be mostly a small game and deer gun, maybe I'm answering my own question here.

Are you meaning out of a rifle barrel, this 250yd data? Why would the 6.8 be mentioned in the rifle listings, but not the handgun?

Yes it will. It has been offered as a factory chambering.

Probably you are. Small game and deer to 100-150 yards is what it is best for. After that you need to either get into wildcats in the Contender for maybe another 100 yards range or move up to the Encore.

How do the chambers run in factory Contender barrels. In the NEF (the only other singleshot I have experience with) they sometimes run a bit long, wondering if 38-55 brass would work in a 375 chambered barrel.

I wouldn't want it chambered in 38-55 since bore dia is usually larger than .375 in those.

The 6.8 Rem is available in both G2 contender handgun and the rifle. They are both listed as factory barrels or complete guns on TC's webpage at www.tcarms.com. Yes the 250 yards is for the contender. the rifle would be good for deer and other comparable game at 300 and change. The round is based on the .270 case and appears to be quiet versatile. I will be using it next season with the Hornady 110 gr v-max bullet. This is my second round with getting into handgun hunting. The 6.8 gives me now in a factory loaded round what a 6.5 JDJ would have in the past.good hunting.

If you're talking about the 6.8 SPC it is based on the 30 Rem cartridge, that is supposedly a rimless 30-30. I don't think it has the dia of a 270 case, the BULLETS are the same dia as a 270, which is 6.8mm.

Seems to me, power wise, to be about equal with the 30-30 AI and spire point bullets.

I have a 375 Win 14" Pistol and 21" Rifle. Haven't shot the rifle barrel yet, just picked it up. The pistol barrel is awesome. Doesn't kick bad either. I load my own with 220 Gr Hornady's.

Mine's an original Contender, so the G2 should be just fine.

With the 14" Pistol,

I got 1801, 1769, and 1751 (3 shots over the chrono) with the Hornady 220 gr FP. no doubt one could do better (ie, faster) with optimizing, but my load was with 30.0gr IMR 4198, new 375 W-W Brass, and CCI Standard Rifle Primer and OAL of 2.500"

Use load data at your own risk.

Load data came from Hornady Manual 4th ed.

I was satisfied and didn't bother to mess with anything else.

Which one or do both lose the trigger set, if the trigger is bumped? I've read this happens, with one of the T/C pistols.

Encore and the G2 both work the same, they came be recocked with out opening the action. The Contender was the one that had to be opened to enable it to be recocked.

I thought the redesign of the contender to the G2 model was more than cosmetic and trigger setup. Somewere I got the idea thet the G2 is able to handle heavier loads than the contender but not to the extent that the encore can. You know right in between. Did I miss something??

When the G2 first came out a bunch of people were making comments about them being stronger than the original. T/C has never made that claim and it is not offered in any calibers different than the original. Who knows the actual design of the gun might be stronger, but I am not going to be the one to test it. T/C could never claim it was stronger because they would have barrels that would fit both the old and new but could cause damage to the old gun (or shooter).
