And Now For Something Completely Different........
« on: December 10, 2005, 02:41:33 PM »
I really like my BC.  Finding a sighting system that works with my bad eyesight, well, that isn't so easy.  The OEM peep and the Williams FP both presented the same problem.  My eyes can't focus back and forth very well.  Tried looking through the peep.  Works but works real slow.  Takes too long to set up the shot.

I put a Nikon 4x40 scope on it.  On the very first shot, the scope introduced itself to my nose.....rudely   .  That scope is now sitting on the Tupperware Special.

Today I bought a Bushnell Trophy red dot sight.  Got it mounted and I hope to get it sighted in in a couple of weeks.  Hopefully it can stand up to the BC's recoil.  I am going to lighter loads, 1500-1600fps to save my shoulder.
If I can hit popcans at 100 yards more than once, I'll be happy.

Zeke-have you considered using a shotgun scope? A lot of them have a little more eye relief than a rifle scope. By the way, welcome to the red crescent club. :D Sorry, couldn't resist. :D

As Nightrain 52 suggested, this was my answer to needng more eye relief on my very light 45-70. 2 1/2 power shotgun shope. It also allowed me to keep the scope in front of the hammer so no hammer extension is needed.

No, I didn't.  After reading the responses here, I went and looked at some shotgun scopes over at O.Z.  They have a Nikon 1x shotgun scope that has a long enough eye relief to work fine.  Just what I need if the red dot doesn't work out.

Since the red dot is already mounted, I'll try it out to see if it works to my satisfaction.

Thanks

I use a Simmons 2.5x20 shotgun scope on my 44 barrel.  I really like the 5.5 inches eye relief but the crosshairs are too fine to me.  They are hard to see in shadows.  But they are only $20 from CDNN Investments.

I use the Leupold VX-1 2x7x33 on all my 45-70's..and haven't once come close to getting scope eye from it with it's long non-critical eye relief...bright ,clear, built to take on the heaviest loads and they come with the best lifetime gaurentee going for them.....Take a look thru one and you'll see what I mean...
