Author Topic: still trying to decide - scope for USH (Leupold or Bushnell) (Read 502 times)

I have now narrowed down my scope choice to the Leupold 2-7x33 Shotgun or the Bushnell Elite 3200 2-7x32 Shotgun. I like what I've read about the Raingard on the Bushnell. I haven't been able to find the % light transmission of the Bushnell versus the Leupold but believe the Bushnell might be higher due to it having multicoated lenses and the Leupold not having them. The only thing I dislike about the Bushnell is the rubber ring around the eyepiece. I just don't like to see a scope with a rubber ring - I've had them come off and lost them before. I have Leupold Vari-X-II 3-9x40 scopes on my Model 7 (7mm-08) and my Model 700 MLS muzzleloader. I most recently purchased a VX1 3-9x40 for my CVA Kodiak muzzleloader. I have really liked all 3 of them. Should I add another Leupold to the family or change it up and put the Bushnell on my 20 gauge USH Deluxe? What are any other advantages/disadvantages of each?

If you are happy with your current Leupolds, why change? In my opinion you can't go wrong with the Leupold.

Everything else being equal I would get the luepold simply for the outstanding customer service. Both are nice scopes though.

Luepold...........no doubt about it.........They are not even in the same game ....<><.... :grin:

Went with the Leupold VX1 shotgun with heavy duplex reticle. The slightly thicker reticle will be nice in lower light situations. Additionally when comparing the Elite 3200 to the VX1 side/side, IMHO there is really no comparison - the VX1 wins out on overall looks, design, clarity, and brightness. The only thing the 3200 had over the VX1 was the Rainguard coating and a very, very slight price difference.

I'm not sure what the % light transmission is on the 2 as far as the numbers go, or the quality of the glass in each, or the quality of the coatings used. But if the 3200 has higher/better numbers, I'm wondering if they are based on the same normalized scale. I know there are some die-hard Bushnell 3200 Elite folks out there and some die hard Leupold folks, but the Leupold VX1 won out on this one.

Congratulations TNhunter, I am sure you made the correct decision and will be happy with it. This was not even a contest really, sort of like which should I get, a Cadillac or a Yugo?....Merry Christmas!....<><.... :grin:
