Wolf 9MM Ammunition
« on: December 10, 2005, 07:56:51 PM »
Did not know where to put this question, so here I am!

Anybody had any bad luck with Wolf ammunition?

I tried to shoot some and after the first 3 rounds I had the worst slide jam ever.  I am still not to sure what exactly happened, but I do know that it is scary having a LIVE round stuck half way and not being able to move the slide!

Any thoughts on the Wolf Ammo would be appreciated.

Wolf ammo goes in commie guns only.  Guns like Makarovs, Mosin-Nagants, SKS's, AK's etc.  They were built to run steel cased ammo.  Most other guns choke on Wolf.

I would think that Wolf ammo with steel cases could be hard on the extractor. It shoots fine in my 40 Glock tho. :D

I tried wolf ammo before and had nothing but problems. I tried the 9mm and 45 ACP. Never again, it is very dirty ammo and the steel cases are a pain. JMHO  :D

I reload and don't normally buy ammo for my .45s. I got in a pinch last spring and needed an extra 1200rds of ammo for a class. I bought 1200rds of Wolf, the polymer coated, not the old laquered stuff. It ran flawlessly thru my Kimber and Glock 21. The guns used in the class were not serviced unless they choked, mine never did. I would use Wolf again in a pinch. Never tried it in 9mm, but have seen lots of it used in IDPA matches before the Blazer could be had cheaper.

 I have shot a lot of WOlf, never had a problem with any of it.  My only complaint, it is dirty, but I usually clean every gun after a trip to the range.

Could it be your gun was dirty to begin with?

I'm not a big fan of Wolf ammo. I've tried it in several different gun/caliber combinations, and have always had accuracy, or functioning problems.

The one brand of steel cased ammo that I've had excellent results with both in accuracy, and functioning is Silver Bear.

I've shot tons of it in a Bushmaster(223), and also in 380, and 9MM pistols. It's always been very consistant, extremely accurate, and 100% reliable with functioning. The Silver Bear 62g HP 223 ammo works very good on groundhogs through the Bushmaster, and the 92g HP in 380, as well as the 145g HP in 9MM also give great terminal performance on critters like possums, coons, groundhogs and such.

The 45 ACP stuff was great.  Very accurate, not any dirtier than any other.
HOWEVER, I had a case of the 9mm stuff and it was nasty.  Very very dirty.  I won't buy any more of it.
I will buy 45 acp stuff. The 9mm Makarov wasn't bad either, just a little hot.

I know of two cases of over pressure with 9 m mWolf.  One resulted in a case failure and damge to the pistol.. The other resulted in the slide being bound up so tight it took three men a a dog with a good sized mallet to get the slide open.

Thanks for the helps guys.  I have done some reading on the Wolf ammo and it goes both ways.  My gun had only 50 rounds through it when this happened and I had cleaned it after the first 50.

My slide was really jammed up, I was not sure we were going to get it,  but we did.  Since then I have shot 150 rounds through, not Wolf and it worked properly.  I might try the Wolf again just to get ride of the 47 rounds I have left.

Thanks

i have run several hundred of rounds wolf ammo both hard ball and hollow points thruough my kel-tec .380 with no problems however my friends kel-tec .380 will jam and stove pipe with it. i have polished my chamber and he has not. i clean and grease mine after every range session. @ $75.00 for 500 rounds delivered i thought it would be good for break in in my gun.

:cb2: The 7.62x39 shoots fine in my Mini-30, but I really haven't put too many rounds of anything through the gun yet.

I haven't had a problem with the 9mm stuff, but I must admit, the only 9mms I have are Blackhawk Convertibles. It shoots great in them! But then, what wouldn't. Wheelguns rule!  :)

I have never had anything but bad luck with steel cased ammo, except in Soviet or east Block firearms.  I have several hundred rounds of 9mm, came in a blue and white box, which managed to jam 3 handguns, a Smith, Star and Taurus.  The lacquer melted and the cases had to be forcibly removed.

Silver Bear works fine and the other coated ammo is 'probably' also good, but leave the varnished rounds alone.
