I have no experience with muzzleloaders but am thinking of getting one. Bass Pro has a CVA Firebolt with 50 and 45 cal. barrels on sale for about $150.00. Is this gun any good for someone who will only use it about 9 days a year. From what I can find it is an older model that is discontinued and at clearance price. I'll take any info anyone has.

This is the route I took some years ago to get into muzzleloading. I found cheap is good in muzzleloading. I have had great success with my CVA.
Accuracy is fine. Cleanup is not the disaster some would have you believe.
I use (2) 50 gr pyrodex pellets and the .295gr Powerbelts that came with the rifle. I hunt no more than 5 times a year with this setup. As a 40 year rifle hunter, was stunned by the accuracy. This is not primative, but very enjoyable to pull the trigger, and feel confident!!!

Check out the price on this combo at Cabela's. I purchased one this fall and have found it easy to maintain. I have had little time to work up a load but got lucky with a 250 grain Barnes MZ and 100 gr of 777 FFG. I paid $139.00 for the Hunterbolt 209 with the .50 and .45 barrels. It's nickle with a black synthetic stock.

i have shot a hunterbolt which is basicailly the same gun for 4 years now . i have killed 20 some deer with it . it shoots great.
