university gun club

I go to school at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Tx.  Basically, if you have 3 or more people, and the schools permission, you can make an official club.  Well this last semester some guys decided to make a gun club.  They decided to call it simply the SFA Gun Club I think.  Well after the university "reviewed" the club constitution for awhile, they came back and said they could make the club, but it couldn't have Stephen F. Austin in the name, so they would have to call it the University Gun Club.  When I was updated with this information, it pissed me off.  I honestly can't believe that they would have a problem with this.  There is a gay group at the school called Pride SFA...yet we can't have an SFA Gun Club? Gimme a break.  The more I think about it, the more irritated I get.  Am I overreacting?

What are you bitchin' about?

You got your gun club.

Tell them "Yeah, sure, University yada yada yada.  You got it Chief!"

...and then call it what the hell you want.

If they complain, start making noise about your 1st Amendment right to freedom of expression.

 :D
They may talk of a "New Order" in the  world, but what they have in mind is only a revival of the oldest and worst tyranny.   No liberty, no religion, no hope.   It is an unholy alliance of power and pelf to dominate and to enslave the human race.

Most universities and colleges, even public ones, hold a copy right on their name, team mascots and logos, and thus have a legal right to regulate there uses.

While I see little logic to their denying the use of their name, in connection with your club, perhaps you can use the opportunity of having the club to “educate” them to the fact, that those involved in the shooting sports, are not the crazed paranoids so often stereotyped, by those opposed to firearms.

Many colleges shooting teams that compete nationally, check out the following link:
