what are the limitations for the encore?will it handle the wsm's,ulta mags?

T/C and almost all custom barrel makers will not chamber the Weatherby's, short mags and/or ultra mags. The high pressures are said to be too much for a break open action.

Some guys have had people chamber some of these calibers for them and have no problems. I for one would rather not take the chance of a possible malfunction that may severely hurt or even kill me.

I had vvcg make me a 270 weatherby for my encore 26" s/s and have had no problems, but they went out of business. You can try Steve Stration "weatherby man" he still makes the encore barrels for vvcg. www.weatherbyman.com

Whether or not the Encore could be chambered in a particular caliber would depend on the pressure the cartridge generates and on the diameter of the cartridge (larger diameter means less metal around the cartridge).  Thompson/Center chambers barrels in such heavy hitters as the 300 Win. Mag., 375 H&H Mag. and 416 Rigby so chamberings in such Weatherby calibers at 257, 300, etc. should not be a problem.  You could try Fox Ridge Outfitters and talk to the Custom Shop; they might make a special chambering for you.

Encores Chambering WSSM

It was explained to me that T/C has done tests with the WSSM chammberings. It was not the high pressures; but the quickness of the fast pressure spikes. The fast high pressure spike cause the frames to spread apart. The WSSM calibres pressure spikes was just too quick for the Encore frame. Hope this give some insight to the problem.
