Hello the wire!

A new BC is on the way to my FFL, so I should have it in a couple of weeks!

I am a relatively new SASS shooter, and I have never shot or attended any long distance side matches, though that will be rectified this next year. I know the Williams rear peep sight is not SASS-legal, but my gosh, most after-market sights cost more than the rifle itself! :shock:

Can anyone help an (old) newfie find a SASS-legal rear sight for the BC that doesn't cost as much as the gun but still meets my needs (needs that I really don't know what they are yet?)

Welcome aboard, Sweaty!!

Can't help ya on the SASS stuff, use the search tips sticky to help you use the search feature to find what few posts there are on SASS sights if there are any, seems to me there are at least a couple of em. The Smith ladder sight might be one of em, dunno for sure. Buffalo Arms has lots of sights, maybe you can find one that suits ya....

As I understand the rules, only Blade type barrel mounted sights or Tang mounted peeps are allowed in SASS matches.

So... if you can't swing any kind of Tang sight right now ,were I in your shoes,I would make your Williams barrel mounted sight LEGAL for SASS by replacing the Peep slide with an open notch BLADE from Williams!! :lol:

If you can focus on the notch that close to your eye, that $10 replacement part would be your cheepest fix right off the bat. Like I said, it SHOULD be legal.. :wink:

Sweaty, if I remember correctly ejectors are not SASS legal. I know, you asked about sights but this info about ejectors I do remember reading.

I do believe there is a sticky in the FAQ section of this forum about converting an ejector to an extractor.

Do a search on the SASS wire for detailed info on sights. I recall Smith and Buffington sights being mentioned. As I recently discovered alot of white hairs in my mustache, I claim old timers disease if any of my info is wrong.

I believe NEF is doing away with Automatic Ejectors and when they ran out, it would be manual ejectors, so maybe your BC will have the regular manual version. Mine has the automatic, wish it had the manual, I may try the modification, but I am nervous at trying that stuff myself

hey pard
as far as rear sights go on the buff the smith is the way to go
i have tried alot of different ones on mine and none performed better than the smith ladder
it runs abt 140 but well worth it

Jim 62 is correct, the blade replacement is the cheapest way to be SASS legal there is.

You can use the Smith sight, it is a good one. There are a couple of people who have mounted tang sites, some do it right to the wood and I've heard of some who have welded a tang onto the gun.

The ejector is legal in the Plainsman event and the long range side match in SASS. The ejector is not legal for the Buffalo sidematch in SASS.

Hey guys!

Thanks for your replys to my question. Patience is not my strong suit, so I must confess that I bought the Smith Ent. sight from Buffalo Arms, even before I pickup the rifle from my FFL.

Since Smith doesn't show this sight on their web site any longer, I felt that if Buffalo Arms still had some for sale, now was the time. However, there were two issues with what I received: first, the slide tensioner (whatever it's called, it's the ball bearing, spring and screw that is on the port side of the slide) was completely missing, and not anywhere in the packaging; and though the picture of the sight on the Buffalo Arms web page showed a v-notch slider, I got the peep sight version.

Cody at Buffalo Arms first asked me to send back the whole thing, but I couldn't see the sense in that. So he gave me Smith's phone number, and said if they wouldn't take care of the problem, to call him back.

Ron at Smith's wanted me to send it back as well at first, but then said he'd send me the missing parts directly. When I asked him about getting the peep slider instead of the v-notch, he said they now use the peep slider, as it works better, especially with the globe front sight that comes on the BC. And, though they took this sight off their web site, they still sell them.
