Was wondering how often a string needs to be replaced. I do a fair amount of shooting during the year and a lot of shooting before the season starts. My string is three years old, but doesn't show any signs of fraying, etc. I keep it waxed and have the serving replaced every year. I hate to mess with it because it shoots so well now, but I don't want to break a string either. When I replace it, what kind would be best?

I replace mine with signs of wear and tear, otherwise I leave it alone. Stings will stretch with use though. I wax them often also.

Depending on which manufacturer you talk to you should replace it anywheres from every 2 to 3 years.

Which string?  I suggest you go with a quality pre-stretched.  They are gonna cost a bit more, but they are worth every penny.  Here is one manufacturer thats got good review from everyon I talk to:
