325 WSM for Big Bear?
« on: December 17, 2005, 09:41:32 AM »
Would any of you give a second thought to going to Alaska armed with a Encore 15" pistol chambered in 325 WSM using super premium bullets?

I can get OTT to chamber up a barrel for me.
I think I would lose around 250-300 FPS off the listed factory ballistics. like my '06 does in my 15 Encore.

Any of you that hunted Big Bears do you think that is enough stink?

OR do you think I might be better served by goin to a 45-70 or .375-06 ,376Styer ,.375JDJ...

Thanks,

Patrick

Why not a 375 Holland & Holland?

That would seem adeqaute for big bear.  If I had an Encore, I'd buy a rifle barrel in this caliber.

The 375 should be adequate for nearly anything on earth with the proper bullets (though not allowed in certain places in Africa due to minimum 40 caliber now).

I won't hesitate to go after large black bear so armed, but don't know about large grizzly or Alaskan Brown bears..there would far worse calibers to choose..just don't know which ones would be better from an Encore..
