Loading 240 Grain T/C Mag Sabots?
« on: December 18, 2005, 11:16:03 AM »
When loading the T/C Mag Sabot 240 gr. XTP in my 50 cal. Omega.......does anyone recommend using the Shockwave Sabot loading tip?

Or do you just use the ramrod?

Just wondering if there can be bullet damage either way....with the ramrod...causing a slight flattening effect...OR with the Shockwave tip causing some inward compression on the 240 gr XTP tip.

Thanks, Dave

You should'nt have any problem with the XTP with about any loading jag since the bullet is hard at the tip. Even if you did deform it slightly, there probably would'nt be any difference in the way it shoots since they are not made to be all that streamlined anyway. The shockwave loading jag and several others are made so you do not deform the plastic tip on Shockwaves, SST"s, Dead Centers or several others. The XTP's shoot great in my Omega but I use 200gr. Shockwaves for hunting.

I hunted with a guy that did that this weekend (used ramrod with no jag). I don't know if it makes any difference, but It did make me cringe to watch him do it.  If you already have the jag, I would see no reason not to use it.  This "gentleman" also missed a target at 15 yds by at least seven inches (off of a rest), after bragging of his shooting skills at 100yds. So In general If I didn't already know any better at the time, I would do just about the exact opposite of this guy and feel pretty safe about it.  Good luck!!
