For me, it would be an unaltered G33/40 Mauser with matching numbers - I have been looking for one for close to 40 years and have never even seen one in the flesh!  Merry Christmas

My Holy Grail....

I still want a broomhandle, when I was young we had this big once a year flea market type thing called Court Days out in Mt. starling, Ky. I found a working broomhandle, it was in .30 mauser if I remember right, (it was a bottleneck cartridge) but being 14 at the time and not having enough money kept me from getting it. He only wanted $75.00 for too!

So, I am still looking for one 30 years later, and I hope to find a shooter when I do find it.

Wasn't that the semi-auto Mauser? I think there was an article about it in the "Guns and Ammo" magazine that came out this fall.

My holy grail would be a sporterized Enfield that my grandfather owned all of his life. The Enfield was given to my Uncle in the late 70's when my grandfather died. My uncle that owns it is a real a-hole and won't give it up. It sits in a closet and gathers dust. He won't even let anyone see it. :(

G33/40

The G33/40 was a standard length, small ring bolt action - they were lightweight carbines issued to the elite mountain troops.

My holy grail is locked up with my other guns. It's a Schmidt-Rubin K-31 7.5X55mm Swiss rifle manufactured in 1948. It's one of the most accurate rifles I have and every time I take it out and cycle the straight pull action on it, it simply amazes me at how something like that works and is made like a Swiss watch. I take it to the range ever so often and let it show me that it will shoot with anything there.

RedRyder21, i know your situation very well. exact same thing with me regarding an uncle and my late grandfathers  SMLE and 1902 made 1894 Winchester

my holy grail milsurp wise would be a 1898 US Krag in full original form, and a No2 Mk1 Inglis Hi-Power. have a lot of other stuff i want, but's it's more out of my price bracket then rare. i've seen 3 G33/40 carbines, two of them matching, know someone who has one. pride of his collection. would love to have the No.4 Mk 1 Longbranch my great uncle carried in WW2. it would tell a lot of history, Dieppe, Normandy, the Scheldt. would be the perfect companion to the No.1 Mk 3 my great grandfather picked up out of the Flanders mud in 1915 when his Ross jammed in action.

You guys bring up a good point.  My dad had a '03 springfield from his service days wrapped in a G.I. bag and I have no clue who has it or where it went.  It has to be over 48 years ago since i seen it last. My grandfather had a shooting gallery pump in 22 and i have no clue to who has that one either.  I shot it once and it was a neat little gun.  :(

I think I would like another C-96 Broomhandle Mauser - either of the three calibers will do.  I think I might like another P-08 Luger, either 30 cal or 9mm.  Maybe a P-35 Radom or a P-35 Hi Power.  Of Course, I could always go for another Astra Modelo 400 (9mm Largo), a few more Tokarevs and a handful of 1911s.  Hmmm, anything else I should consider???  Fellas????  Mikey.

I passed on two broomhandles a while back for $300 each. A chinese and a mauser one they were in great condition outside but needed barrels.(pitted) There was a broomhandle in SOG's flyer last month for $600.  I think it was an Astra.

Ok D Man, rub it in, the only one I have seen around here was $950, had no finish left on it and looked like someone had tried to clean it up with 80 grit sand paper, and that was the good part! The bore was so dark that an arc light wouldn't have lit it up. So where are these $300 C96?

Patm41,

Ok, now I need to get a drool proof keyboard, those are so sweet. Maybe if I win the lottery I can get a nice set like that.

I'd love to find an original unmodified 1886 Lebel with a stock that doesn't look like it was used to crack walnuts.
