Question about 7mm-140-SP
« on: December 19, 2005, 03:39:45 AM »
Veral-

I just dropped a 7mm-140-SP (gas checked) mold order in the mail to you.  My next step is to get a size/lube die for my Star sizer.  Magma Eng. will want to know the number of lube grooves on this bullet as well as the distance between lube grooves, center to center, in thousands of an inch in order to supply the correct die.

Can you advise this info so I can order the die from Magma Engineering?

Thanks,
-Matt

Standard Magma sizers have .1 inch spacing, the same as Star used to make them, I believe, and will work for almost any bullet.  So, in the future, if you tell me you will be sizing in a Star, I cut the grooves so .1 spaced lube ports will fill them.  If you sent throat slugs, I return a proper diameter mold and sizing diameter instructions along with the mold, which means you'll need my sizing instructions to order the proper sizing diameter, and I don't measure the slugs to find this diameter till I cut the mold.

I completed your mold, I believe the day the order came, and UPS has it for delivery, so I can't give you the lube groove spacing or proper sizing diameter, as I don't keep a record.  If you gave me the diameter you wanted and told me you'd be sizing in a Star.  Just order a sizer die with standard lube port spacing.  If you sent throat slugs you'll have to wait till your mold arrives, or in the future, ask me to email the above information soon as I know what it will be.

So, I'm happy that I was real fast in filling your order, but sorry I can't give you the information you need.  You'll probably have the mold in hand in a couple days anyhow.

When you order the pusher punch, ask to have the diameter .010 smaller than sizer diameter.   Do this will all gas checked bullets, rather than using punches which are much smaller than sizer diameter, this to provide a perfecly squared bullet base.
