Survivor range report!

Hey yall,    
Went and did some blasting with my dad today. I took the 223 handi and I was IMPRESSED! I stated before that the trigger wasnt bad,(and I made it better by simply cleaning the factory crud out of it) BUT I forgot what  a good trigger felt like untill I was shooting my dads contender. But again for a 200 dollar gun I really have no room to gripe. Now for the results. I had the win. 45grain hollow points.Shot about 30 or so rounds trying to get it close to bullseye at 100 yards. groups were so so.(more on that in a minute) Cleaned it and got this




That is one inch on the money! If I hadnt pulled the 3rd shot,it would have been more like 1/2 inch at 100 yards! MOA out of a 200$ gun with factory ammo? Yep, and I like it. Now for all the excuses why I didnt shoot better. :-D

 Well I was in bed this weekend with some nasty coughin hackin sneezing shakin swettin body achin crud  that I would not wish on anyone. Almost didnt even go today. Next,while I was letting the handi cool off, I was shooting my dads mosin nagant m44, For those of you who dont know, that is a russian bolt gun with BIG bullets and a STEEL butt plate. And translated into english from russian, "mosin nagant" means " even though you dirty americans won the cold war, we will sell you our surplus guns so that we know that we are still hurting you even after the war is over" :-D
 And I also shot his 303 brittish that also has a STEEL butt plate. Its not as bad, but it caught me wrong and bout knocked me out of the chair. So  I was a little jumpy. Now my mind knew that the 223 wouldnt hurt, but my shoulder simply felt a rifle butt on it and tried to run for the hills! That being said, I havent shot in quite awhile and Im just a little  better than average shot. So I know that the rifle will shoot better than I can shoot it.
And the only cure for that is  more ammo and more range time, what a terrible thing.

PS, Thanks for all the info from this site. It helped today. Dont think Ill need the O ring, but I know for a fact that my handi wont shoot unless it is rested on the receiver, a little tip I picked up  here at gbo.

Nice group   ...I bet you can't wait till you get back at it again...keep us posted on how it's doing...

Mac, no, I cant wait to get back cause I know that I can tighten up that group . And yep, Im hooked. Hi my name is Chris, and Im a handiholic. :-D

Might take it to bass pro and shoot it in their 100 yard rifle tube. That would sure beat piling on layers of clothes to go shoot  when its 29 degrees like it was today when we were shooting. But then I couldnt balme poor groups on the wind. :wink:

Good shooting cpj. I am sure you'll get those groups to pull in. I sure did with mine, took a little tinkering :wink: , and some good range time, but they did. I have put at least 500+ rounds through my 223 and it shoots absolutely great, just have to play my role when we dance
I might have asked you this before, forgive me if so, but does your 223 have a 1-9 twist or the old 1-12?

I've found that my first 2 shots in most of my Handi's usually touch, and the 3rd always opens up the group.

You havent asked, so the answer is I dont know. I havent checked the serial number to see what year it was made, or tried the the patch and cleaning rod trick yet either. I would like to know my self.
