That Savage won't warrant the gun, I understand, but will they sell you a barrel? 24F's are still being produced, so if you can get a barrel from them, you'd be all set. Other than that, you could watch ebay, but I watch ebay pretty closely for old Savage 24 parts, and have never seen a 24F barrel on there, only a few barrels for the older model 24's.
Sincerely,

Sounds like the perfect candidate for a rebore/chamber job.  I've had a LOT of them (no 24F's) done over the years, and they shoot just as well or better than a factory bbl..

I don't think a rechamber would be a good idea on that gun, I'd check with a very competent gunsmith first. The 24 is not exactly a high end drilling, and the hottest the 24's were ever chambered for pressure wise are the .223 and the 357 Remington Maximum. The cheapest, and probably most viable alternative to salvage the rifle barrel would be to get a chamber adapter from McAce, for either a 22, or 22 mag. It would eliminate your problem, and only set you back 20 dollars. Here is the link, if you're interested:

I wasn't implying he go to a .308 or 30-06 ect... or some other big game round.  There are other choises like the 30-30 Win., 25/20 Win., and several others.....  Some may require a reline, but if you have a favorite cal. or cartridge, it may be worth it to "you" ???
