Theft Prevention
« on: December 21, 2005, 03:22:24 AM »
About a year ago, I had a brand new Polaris 600 stolen out of a locked enclosure in my backyard.  Even though I had insurance on it, I was out about $1300.  I purchased a new one in January, and bought a security chain and lock and installed it into the concrete in my carport.  In addition, I run a Kryptonite cable lock through the driveshaft, and around the frame, so it cant be rolled away.  Sometime late last night, someone tried to roll it off the carport, but got it as far as the end of the chain.  I dont think the idiots even knew the driveshaft was cabled!  I know there are other people out there who cant lock their ATV's in sheds or garages, so what do you do?  What else can I do to prevent theft, short of shooting them.  I did report it to the Sheriffs department, but I get the standard "we will increase patrols in this area".  Would motion detector lights and an alarm on the ATV help?  Let me know what you all think.  Happy Holidays.
