encore muzzle loader question
« on: December 21, 2005, 05:22:22 PM »
I have noticed a lot of movement between my barrel and frame when it is closed up, is this normal. Also does thompson or anybody else make a stainless shotgun slug barrel for encore.

Encore Barrel Movement
« Reply #1 on: December 22, 2005, 03:42:19 AM »
I don't have any significant side to side movement between the barrel and frame in my Encore muzzle loader so my guess is that this is abnormal.

I don't know of any source for stainless steel shotgun barrels for the Encore but perhaps there is one I haven't heard of.

I agree that the movement is abnormal.  I switch my ML barrel to several other calibers, and I have no movement.  Might want to have a T/C shop check it out.  Might be time for a new pin.

I have not seen a SS shotgun barrel for the T/C.

Best of luck, Arch

I have no movement in either my 209X50 or my 7-08. I'd have to say your situation is abnormal. I would call T/C and see what they say.

Herb40,
When I took mine out of the box I noticed movement when I closed the action. I called T/C and spoke to a tech and he said some movement is normal. I did not want to determine myself what was normal for these and sent it back.(6 days from the time I sent till it was at my home-fast)
Still had movement(side to side). Looked at 15 of these at Gander Mnt. All wiggled side to side, checked a 300 win mag on the shelf, same. I talked to my neihgbor just yesterday and asked him about his,he wasn't sure brought it to my house, same thing. Has to be normal!!

Damn my frame and 3 barrels must be abnormal because I can't detect any side to side movement in any of them

I am going to try an oversize pin in mine to see if it will take out the side to side movement between barrel and frame. I will let you know how it works.
    Thanks for the help.

str8shooter48,
You must have abnormal barrels, because the T/C tech I spoke to said some movement is normal. That is why I sent mine back to let them make the decision. Every encore I put my hands on had some movement.(approximately 30-35 new on the shelf).

herb40,
Glad that tightened yours up,I;ll have to get one and try it.

Oops, I was wrong went down and checked my 308 bbl and did notice a little side to side play. Must not be a big deal it shoots pretty good even with factory ammo, I stand corrected.

I purchased the 2 pack pins from bellm (1x and 2x), seem to be very knowledgable on encores and take pride in their parts. The 1x took out all side to side movement.A little tougher to put in(had to use the end of the screw driver to tap it in)but well worth the feeling of NO wiggle. There is absolutely no way in hell T/C can't correct this with better tolerances in their machining. The price you pay for these things should illustrate better quality on tolerances and fit. I'm going to buy a 243 win. barrel for mine this spring,I'm anxious to see if I will need the 1x or 2x pin.

Perhaps they should custom fit the hinge pin before trying to use a one pin fits all philosophy.I'm going to buy a 243 win. barrel this spring,I'm anxious to see if I will need the 1x or 2x pin.

If so it's not legal in VA. in the muzzleloading seasons. It would be in regular rifle season though. 8)
