"Whelen's Northwoods Trails" is the title of this  Canadian based website that is devoted to 35 Caliber hunting rifles such as th .35 Remington, 358 Win, 356 Win, 350 Rem Mag, 35 Whelen, 35 Whelen AI,   the .350 Jacob (you never heard of that one?) and others.

The Canadian webmaster is a self confessed .35 caliber cultist who owns, collects and hunts with his personal 35 cal collection that includes the .35 Rem, 35 Whelen and .350 Rem.  In addition, the site has a wealth of links and reprints of articles dealing with the entire gamut of .35 cal ctgs and hunting stories.  Great photos of bullets and such classic .35 cal rifles as the discontinued but highly prized Marlin 336 "Marauder" with its 16.5" barrel and straight grip and a write up on the  limited edition .35 Remington Guide Gun.

Did you know that Remington chambered its semi-auto Model 7600 in .35 Whelen?  Well this guy's got one complete with pics and loading data.

If you are into .35 caliber cartridges and rifles,  and you don't know about this site, you are deprived!   What are you waiting for?

You're right Killdeer.  The correct model number is 7400, the Remington Semi-Auto.

Remington made the .35 Whelen in both the 7400 and the 7600.  The wife shoot a semi-auto .35 Whelen and I shoot a pump.  Love them, and only have to carry one box of shells.

You notice he has a model 660 Remington in .350 Rem Mag.  He refers to the model 600 as reported to have a bad recoil, but he does not find that in the 660 he has.  I have a model 600, tiny little thing with an 18 inch barrel with a vented rib, and laminated stock.  I have to say it is the hardest kicking gun I own.  Recoil is worse than with any of my .338s, even the single shots.  I don't take it to the range period.  I shoot it only when needed.  I also own a Ruger M-77 in .350 Rem Mag that does not kick half as bad with the same loads.

Hi All:

I've heard the same thing about that particular model.  Just switch to a BLR in 358 Winchester and problem solved.  With the 250 grain bullets the velocity difference is less than 100 fps.  The BLR is one of the best guns out there in terms of perceived recoil, where as the Rem Model 600 is the worst.

Being into efficiency my 3 favorite rounds are:
1) 358 Winchester
2) 9.3 x 57 mm
3) 375 in necked up 284 Win case

Happy New Year to all of you who responded to this thread with such interesting posts (and who caught my mistake about the 7400 Remington). I don't own any .35 cal rifles, but I'm getting the bug and I always enjoy it when you .35 cal veterans are wonderful enough to share your experience with the rest of us at Graybeardoutdoors.

Happy New Year and best to all of you!

I took a look at the 35 caliber website. I am a 35 lover, too. There is some interesting information and it is well worth the time. Thanks for the heads-up.

Will definitely have a look at that site.

Off topic, I just noticed that Remington's custom shop lists a Model 7, mannlicher stock, in 35 Remington, and .350 rem mag.

Looks like I'll have to blow the budget again.  Mmmm, a .35 Remington Model 7.

Winchester's custom shop chambers its custom short action M-70 in .358 and a shop in Las Vegas offered one that was heavily discounted...down from $2,700 to about $2,150 or something like that.  Tht gun has still not sold.  Shooters just can't seem to make up their minds about the .358...even when it's heavily discounted!  :)

Hi All:
I just read an interesting article about the new Remingtom 750 semi-auto.  One off the calibers offered is the 35 Whelen.  And they make it in a 18.5 inch barrel carbine and a 22 inch rifle.  I'm getting that obsessive twitch that I may just have to buy the 35 Whelen carbine.

With something like H380 that burns quick enough to keep the muzzle blast down in that barrel length I think I could cook up some loads that would push the 250 grain Nosler at about 2500 fps.  If the stock is a good one for perceived recoil that would be a really sweet setup.  The semi-auto soaks up a bit of recoil on its own and the carbine is 7.25 pounds versus the 6.5 pounds of my BLR in 358 Win.  So it might be possible to have an extra 100 fps over my 358 Win. with maybe even a little bit less recoil.

The new Lever Evolution ammo by Hornady  is making the 35 Remingtion a   much better round also.  Things are looking up for the 35 caliber rifles this year.

Hava a Great  New Year.

I've hunted large (nothing larger than a big bull elk) and small game over the years with a variety of calibers (.22 LR to .375 H&H) but it seems ever time I head to the woods nowadays it's with a 35.  Only have three but they cover what I need.
