Okay guys, I've read some of the past posts and I'm looking for some specific systems you guys are using. I traded for a 54 cal Renegade and at this time I'm interested in shooting pyrodex or 777 and Maxi style bullets. If time allows I may later work up a load for BP and round balls but not just yet. I have been shooting an inline for a number of years and have a system set up for that. I realize this will be a different cat altogether so I would like to here how you guys are working up your loads,cleaning at the range, and also cleaning for storage between shoots.  I am not looking for a fastfood style system, I know this will take some time and I'm looking forward to it. Renegades are sweet. I love my old .50 caplock. Ok, first thing, even with everything perfect, Pyrodex is still hard to ignite in a sidelock, so I imagine 777 will be also. I have only had 1 misfire with using Blackpowder loads and maybe a few hangfires, but with Pyrodex, many more, don`t use it anymore. If you are going to use Pyrodex or 777, may I suggest one of the hotter optional nipples available and also use #11 Magnum Caps, this should help. I have only used stock nipples and regular #11 Caps. Even though I only use Blackpowder now, I am going to switch over to a hotter nipple and the magnum caps. A good starting load for these guns with maxi balls is 70 gr. Pyrodex RS or Select and work up from there, usually topping out at 100 gr. After that, is probably overkill.Myself, 90 gr. is nice, powerfull, yet accurate. Jack.

I'm in agreement with slayer, with a damp day pyrodex is a hard starter with regular #11 caps witching to cci Magnums, it will help, I swiched over to musketcaps and had only one failuar to go off, left my rifle sit overnight
in truck and it took 5 caps to finally kick it off with a hang fire, with regular black it sets off right now, I realize some folks cannot find black powder, but if you do or have access to it get it and you will not be disapointed, from everything  I've read the triple 7 was designed for the in lines, never tried it in my hawkin, so have know opinion, hope you enjoy your new toy.  kjg
