30-06 accelerator rounds
« on: March 10, 2003, 03:07:33 AM »
I finally found a good load for 30-06 accelerator rounds. I have 1.25" @ 100 yards when the bullet run out is less then 0.005". The groups open up to 4" when the run out is > 0.005". My problem is I can't get the bullets to seat consistantly. About 50% of my loads are > 0.005". Any sugestions for improving my precision. I use a Lee Turret Press and I have had problems with it seating consistantly in the past. I am thinking a single stage press might be what I need or one of the RCBS special micrometer seating dies.

you have hit the nail on the head, for precision definately use a single stage press, I only use a progressive for blasting ammo. I did purchase the competitive dies for 3006 and a few others but more for the ability to place the bullet in at the top of the stroke, micrometer was just another benefit, Raymond

You might want to try and have a special seater plug made up for your bullet seater die.  Let's face it, the accelerator round isn't shaped like anything you'd normally load into an 06 case and the bullet seater plug in your die could be causing the misalignment more so than the press you are using.  I'd give that a try first.
