Scope mount recommendations?
« on: December 27, 2005, 01:09:59 PM »
I received a 15" .22-250 barrel my Encore from my father for Christmas. I'm wanting to mount a scope on this barrel, and maybe the 209x50 muzzle loader barrel to. I've always used Leupold mounts on my bolt action rifles, and have no problem with using them, But I thought maybe some of you might know of a better  :?:  mounting system for the Encore. I tried searching for this on here, but had no luck.

Thanks for any info!

I like to use a Weaver base with Burris Signature Z rings on light recoiling calibers.  Gives flexibility in the scope position.

Get a Leupold, Burris, Beuhler, or other quality steel base and rings for your barrels.

Here are just a few currently on EBay.

The aluminum bases and rings are ok for light recoiling guns that won't see extreme weather.  My hunting barrels have the better steel bases and rings.

Just my opinion after lots of years and a bazzilion barrels.

I use the Redfield 3-ring system on my Contenders.  I don't know if they make one for the Encore or not.  Although the 22-250 doesn't have much recoil, you may purchase another barrel sometime that does produce recoil.  The 3-ring system has held 'scopes in place on my 445 SM and it does have recoil.  2-ring systems didn't even come close to holding the Burris in place.  Just a thought.  Good-luck...BCB

Encore Scope Mounting
« Reply #9 on: December 28, 2005, 12:12:11 PM »
I gotten most of my Contender & Encore scope mounts from Thompson/Center via Fox Ridge Outfitters.  I tried Leupold quick detach mounts for a .375 H&H Mag. barrel and they shot loose; I've never had a problem with Thompson/Center mounts.  Of course with calibers with less recoil, other mounts might work just fine.

From what I understand, T/C mounts are Warne's w/the T/C name and a bit higher price tag - to me, both are quality mounts. The one improvement might be two more screws for the "heavy recoiling" calibers. But then T/C would also have to comply or the holes in the base would be useless.

Another question for y’all... Does the Contender and Encore barrels have the same screw spacing for the scope bases?

The reason I ask this is a friend of mine bought 3 SS dual dovetail Leupold mounts at an auction and offered to sell them to me for what he has in them. I looked on Leupolds web site and saw they have different part numbers for Contender and Encore mounts.

Thanks,
Nate

Don't forget to also consider barrel diameters which I think are not the same between the two types...

Yes, the hole spacing is the same but barrel diameter is not.  You can attach an Encore mount to a contender barrel (I've done it by misstake), but you'll notice the sides of the base hanging out in mid-air.  I doubt the screws are long enough to engage if you try a Contender base on an Encore.  :(  Walt
