Mossberg Model 472 PCA 30-30 Lever Action
« on: December 27, 2005, 02:23:00 PM »
Saw a Mossberg Model 472 PCA lever action 30-30 Win in a local pawn shop for $199.00.  It looks like a Marlin with the solid top receiver (drilled & tapped), the side ejection and two piece firing pin, but has a different trigger mechanism.  The trigger is attached to the lever and moves with it when the action is cycled, so that your finger never leaves the trigger, kind of  like the Win Model 88.  Also, it has a rotating safey on the left side of the receiver that blocks the hammer.  No cross-bolt on this one.

I haven't been able to find much about this rifle.  Anyone have any experience with them? Will Marlin Scope mounts work with them?

Were they made for Mossberg by Marlin?  Do they have micro-groove rifling or cut rifling?

Any assistance will be appreciated.

The Mossberg levergun is entirely Mossberg. They were known to use Accu-groove rifling in their rimfires. This is the same as microgroove in a Marlin. It would be on the barrel rollstamp if used on the levergun. As with any firearm, there're good ones and bad ones. You can get a store brand Marlin for the same price. Microgroove is not a bad rifling system. Just misunderstood by the uneducated cast bullet users. :D

I  have one, not a bad little rifle sorta like crossing a 336 with a BLR.  Yes a 336 scope base will fit it.  $199 seems a tad high (got mine for $115) but if it's in good shape offer him $150.00.
