460 XVR scope
« on: December 27, 2005, 04:55:07 PM »
Looking for suggestions on a solid scope mount and scope combination for the 460 with 8 3/8 barrel.  let me know if you have any pros and cons on the setup you are using.  Could really use some help on this, since not sure what setup can take the repeated recoil impact.

On my old 500 Mag, I was using the Weaver mount with a Ultra-dot it held up great.  My 460 is a PC model and comes with a mount. But I was using the Leupold mount with a Bushnell 2X6X32 scope on my standard 460 Mag. Work great, but I just wanted a PC model.  :D

Another option for scope mounting to an X-Frame Revolver is to go with a Jack Weigand Scope Mount.  I have one for my Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter and another for my Browning Buckmark and they are rock solid.  Check them out...They offer free shipping on that mount to boot.

Thanks for the recommandations.  I ordered the Weigand mount and they shipped today.  Now I need to pick up a sturdy scope.  Any suggestions on that?  Leopold, Nikon, and I believe Burris, all have lifetime warranty on their products.  That might come handy with this caliber...

Burris

Well I finally broke down and bought a Burris 2x7-32mm with Posi-lock.  PL and 4 Wiegand rings should help keep the scope together when shooting full house.  Or at least I am hoping.  Now if I can just find some 460 Hornady 200gr ammo.  Everything is back ordered.

Sounds like you have a pretty tough set up there...Good to hear that the Weigand mounts and rings are working out for you...Once you find some rounds let us know how it shoots for you...

you have the perfect setup.
i bought my 460 when they first came out and couldn't find steel weaver mount so i put an aluminum one on it - BIG MISTAKE. it peened at the recoil lug and sheered the screws off. scope bounced off head and landed on ground.
bought weigand mount and four rings.  had to take scope off to send gun in to s&w to have trigger cleaned up.  when i reinstalled the scope and mount and went to the range it was dead on, not even a click off!!
one of the best products i have seen.
put em where you want em

Now reloading
« Reply #7 on: January 16, 2006, 03:44:33 PM »
While I am waiting to get the scope, starting to think about reloading.  Never done it before and always used factory loads.  Started to look at various reloading setups and manufacturers out there.  Lee, RCB, Dillon, MAC are the ones I read about so far.

I need to be able to reload 300WM, 270W, 7mm RM, 40S&W, 500S&W, 25-06, 8mm mauser, and of course the 460S&W.

What setup do you use, and what setup do you recommand?  Which setup is the best in value, and which is best in quality/performance?

Lots of questions, but I got to start somewhere and I figured start here with the 460S&W crowd.

Get a T'SOB MOUNT from SSK Industries, and have JD put 4 RINGS around your new Bushnell ELITE.
