Hey Guys,
the other day I bought an NEF Rifle in .223 cal.. It appears to be an Ultra Rifle because of the laminated stock with checkering and recoil pad. The barrel says, Handy Rifle SB2 Cal. 223 Rem with a P in a circle. The serial # begins with an NL. On the bottom of the action there is a P.
Here is where the Question comes in. The guy I bought this rifle from is a local gunsmith. I talked with him today and said that I'd like to get an extra barrel for this rifle in 30-06. He told me not to do that as the action wouldn't handle anything larger than .223 because the action was the same as the one NEF uses for shotguns and it isn't strong enough. I assumed that the NEF Ultra handled all those large calibers they have available.
So by the description of the rifle I gave above, can you tell me if I have an NEF Ultra reciever or is it just a standard shotgun action with a .223 barrel mounted on it
PLEASE, I'm really concerned because if it's just a shotgun action I don't think it would even be safe to shoot a regular diet of .223 ammo in it let alone any other hi-Power rifle barrel cartridge.
Regards
