fraying string
« on: December 29, 2005, 03:59:05 PM »
I just changed my peep sight on my bow that has a fairly new string on it.  Where the old peep sight was the string looks a little frayed.  It does not look too bad, but wax does not make it look much better.  Should I put some serving over this area or let it go?

If no individual strings look broken, then keeping it waxed should be enough.  But if it looks at all bad I would change out the string and then be sure to keep it waxed up.  I would also ck your peep for sharp edges or see what is causing the fraying.  Wax before installing the peep and try to take some of the stress off of the string before puting the peep in.  Typically trying to split the string and then puting the peep in, without, relieving the stress on the string is the cause of fraying.  The string should be served on each side of the peep so it does not slide at all.
