Can't remember what bullet you 243 shooters here are using, think it is the Nosler 85 grain Ballistic Tip. Correct? If not, what??? Friend has an NEF 243, had a bullet failure yesterday, deer ran, lung shot and with busted shoulder. Went onto neighbors property and he laid claim :evil: Don't want this to happen again, so what is the best 243 deer bullet? Thanks

Dunno how well the Fusion 95gr work on deer personally, but they shoot real good in mine and from reports, they work well on deer. The 100gr Federal Power Shoks shoot real good too and from my previous experience with these, would recommend just behind the shoulder shots for the .243, shoulder shots with anything other than a premium bullet like a partition or Barnes or a bonded bullet with the .243 may have disappointing results.

I use 85 gr. HPBT Sierra in my 243 no problems,
Only neck shots, one shot one kill. Marv.

85gr Barnes TSX the only kind. Best of all forget aboiut the 243 on deer.

The situation you described could happen with any bullet. We hunt with 12ga slugs here in Ohio and you have to take running into consideration
in small hunting areas. I've known of deer to cover 100yds with a double lung shot on a running animal. Adrenalin is the factor you can't control as the deer don't know it's dead. Both shoulders would have stopped it, but I believe that's beyond capabilities of a 243.

My load was with the CT 95grain Silver Ballistic tip and Reloader 22

Well I am not a fan of the 243 but i know a very succesful hunter who has taken anything from big ole mulies to barbary sheep and javelina out to 200 yards. How he does this i dont know.

I would say he was a very talented person who waits for the perfect shot and then takes it placing the bullet exactly where it needs to go...

yet to shoot a deer with mine but I finally got a coyote Sat with mine using 95gr fusion a it did just fine. I have some 85gr bthp sierras loaded but havent bench tested them and corelocs shoot pretty good.

I've seen .243 100 grain Rem Corelokt slugs shoot through Whitetails broadside even inside 50 yards.They hold together fine IMHO and work well on moderate sized deer .

I would use them or any other big game type 95g-100g bullet for deer in a .243.

Quicker expanding 85g bullets work well for lung or neck shots, but in case you have to shoot for the shoulder or angle into the vitals, the 100g slugs are better..

Maybe its a my circle of friends thing but, we never aim for the shoulder on a whitetail. Always rigth behind it where the vitals are. Could be the fact that we are also bowhunters and thats the best place to stick an arrow.IMHO, a well placed .243 will drop a deer in in its tracks. That being said, ALMOST any centerfire round will also. Just my .02

JPH45, I am using the Fusion 95 grain in my .243 Handi, and I love it. I have taken 4 deer this year and a yote and all 5 dropped where they stood. Never took a step. I love this round.
