Yes, I know what you mean about last minute bids. I believe the term is called "sniping." The way around it is to bid your max, and if the bid goes over that, then you didn't want the item at that price.
I thought I wanted a Scout until I saw the grief a couple of shooters went through at the range. One guy with the pistol version could not get the thing to fire with a Pyrodex load to save himself. The unique nipple design precluded him trying a hotter musket cap, or switching to a 209 primer. The rifle shooter who also had a misfire had to dissassemble his rifle down to parade rest and start over. Seems the difficulty in ignition was not an isolated incident. They sure did look neat, though.
You may be better off with the Cabelas rifle.
