Yep, after the range or hunting(if fired) I take the barrel off of my T/C Hawken, and emmerse it in a bathtub full of hot soapy water for about a half hour, then I swish is around very well and then rinse in hot clear water, this gets alot out. Then I blowdry it very well to dry it quickly without rust. Then I use patches with T/C $13 until clean. Finish with a patch of Bore Butter for storage. Works well. Jack.

I have been cleaning smoke poles for 30 years. the best thing I have found is, Isoproply Alcohol. It cleans well and also removes moisture.
I use it between shots a the range and and to clean my M/L at home.

Buy bottles of the stuff at "Dollar Stores"... you can see the crud just fall off in chunks and flakes when you soak your parts in it.

I spray everything real well with windex, and then fill the sink full of hot soapy water, and using a tight patch on a shotgun cleaning rod, pull the water up and down the barrel.  Switch to a brush, run it up and down a few times, back to the patch for a few more swabs, then just rinse it off in the tub with hot water.  Run a patch of 99% rubbing alcohol down the barrel to dry the water, oil and put away.

Be careful, it contains Ammonia and that is corrosive.  :D

Three parts of rubbing alcohol, three parts hydrogen peroxide and two parts Murphy's oil soap. Not my recipe, can't remember where I got it or I would give the credit due.

I like the alcohol and HP.  I am not too hot on the Murphy Oil Soap.  It is too sudsy.

I saw an ad last night for Oxy-Clean.  Anyone tried that?  It goes on in powder and then foams up when water is added.

I like warm soap & water and  then a clean water rinse chased with a few dry patches. One or two Alcohol soaked patches to help remove any water that may be left and a good coat of otis.

Anything that has a safe ph and is a solvent to salt should clean a ml fast. Water is as cheap as it gets.
keep your powder dry !!!

The correct recipe is, 2 parts isoproply alcohol (rubbing alcohol 70%. Walmart has it).....2 parts hydrogen peroxide......1 part Murphy's Oil Soap. Stirred not shaken  . Store in a dark container.

I have used this for YEARS and it is in MHO, the best thing going. Here is HOW i use it....

Dry brush bore with a nylon brush, dump out soot.

Block off nipple and pour barrel full, leave a half inch low at muzzle.

Stand rifle in corner for 30 minutes...it will foam up a little.

Pour out cleaner then brush vigorously while barrel is still wet.

Push wet patches through until no discoloration shows.

Wet/dry patches with CARBURATOR CLEANER to finish clean.

Oil bore with 3 in 1 oil.

I have polished bores that stay mirror finished with this system and on any given day my rifles will shoot clover leaf groups to 100 yards. Hope this helps....

P.S. the wife don't like the smell of carb cleaner but I do....I have a shop to clean my rifles in.
gun control is good: Proper cheek weld, Slow exhale and a Steady trigger pull.....

Its been all uphill to 40 sumthin...almost lookin' forward to the downhill slide......

Members of my reenactment unit use this recipe and it works great. The chemical reaction keeps the suds down and the Murphy's keeps the gun oiled. Great recipe

Hot soapy water is the best, make sure it's boiling hot soapy water.  Hot water from the sink just doesn't cut it.  Can lead to rusting. :P

I would be careful using the bore butter.  Make sure the bore is completely dry before you use it.  Otherwise....... :P

hot water will work fine. even cold water will work. if using cold water make sure you get the barrel dry
