Deer accuracy 777 vs. Pyrodex powders
« on: January 01, 2006, 06:56:43 AM »
Is there a significant change in using one powder vs. the other?
For instance I have my rifle sighted in with 777. I consider 3" circle good enough deer accuracy at 50 yards... Many bucks no problems!
I'm almost out of 777, but have an unopened Pyrodex. I'll get to the range
sooner or later. Has anyone compared the two.. I'm betting that for my accuracy, there is little or no difference in the two at 50 yards... All things being equal!

Should be real close. When I switched from Pyrodex to triple7 it was close.  :D

This totally depends upon your gun! I have never soiled my Omega with Pyrodex, but when I shot my Traditions Lighting with both it significantly affected accuracy with some bullets.  I would STRONGLY suggest putting a few bullets downrange with the pyrodex to double-check things.  I'd never go hunting without verifying my setup!
You should be OK at 50 yds as that's not much room for things to change, but I've seen stranger things happen.

I agree with you on shooting it first. Any time you change anything, make sure you shoot the gun.  :D

I found that 120 grains of AP FFG and 3 777 pellets shoot to the same point of aim at 100 with 345 grain Powerbelts............in my Z5 Omega.
