It took forever but I finally got the 204 coyote hunting
« on: January 01, 2006, 11:59:55 AM »
Well I finally got out to do some coyote hunting yesterday and dispite of how we were shooting I managed to bag this coyote.

I shot him with 35 grain bergers.

I was calling in a small patch of brush alonge side of a irrigation canal. and as it seems for me when I am calling they show up in 2 min or less or not at all. Well I had been calling for about a minute or so when this guy pops up to the top of the bank and is comming in he stops abot 125-150 and I pop him.  My shot was a little off A touch high and right so I hit square on the shoulder bone.  But there was no fur damage suprisingly, I had been hearing good things about the bergers as a fur bullet I suspect that it will become the "standard" 204 fur bullet over the next few years. when I skinned it the shoulder was absolutly demolished from about .5" and in.

aulrich...you sound like your in the same boat I'm in right now...just got my 204 Handi two weeks ago. One coyote at 230 yds frontal chest shot and one at 350 yds behind the shoulder. Both one shot kills with almost no damage. I am shooting 32gr V-Max reloads. So far so good! Keep us posted on your Berger experiences w/ the 204.

One thin I forgot to add, I was a little consired on how the extractor would work vs a funtinong ejector with gloves on. I am not sure who posted the tip here but it sure worked and that was to break the action with the gon onit's side and as the acton opens make sure that the ends up pointing up with gravity finishing what the extrator started. It was very handi :)  thanks to who ever it was.

That's LeftoverDJ's method, it works on my .22-250 but not on my .204, I think a little extractor clean up with a hone would make it work, though. Congrats on the yote!!!
